My spiritual journey continues!
So… a mere few months ago, I had no idea what a ‘chakra’ was… Now, I am well on my way to becoming a Reiki Master, I am an Angel Empowerment Practitioner, and am soon to be, a Higher Priestess of the ‘Goddess Healing Matrix System’… Wow, you may say. She’s lost the plot! No… Not at all… I found it!
Over 30 years of clinical experience, the continual practice and study of the conventional health care practices that we are all familiar with, has provided me with a career and passion I would never have found in any other career. Yes, Nursing and Midwifery has been, and continues to be, my vocation. It has been my bread and butter, passion and literally, a ticket to the world. They still are. My clinical practice and licensing as a Registered Nurse will continue as I practice as an Integrative Health Coach. But to become an EFFECTIVE, HOLISTIC PRACTITIONER, I needed to address my sadly, lacking knowledge of Spirituality. What is is it? What does it mean to me? What does it mean to others? I knew it was an essential part of the whole person… and I have never failed to address it and respect it within my clinical practice. But I knew I needed a deeper understanding…to equal my knowledge and understanding of the physical, emotional and social beings that we all are.
A few weeks ago, I was invited to participate in an online program developed by my now dear friend, Shelley Hanna, my ex-psychologist of wow, 4 years ago? This program is called ‘Dharma and Karma Group Coaching to Your Dreams’… OK! Yes! But… what is ‘Dharma’? I and an idea what ‘Karma’ was… but…’Dharma’?
Dharma is the Sanskrit meaning of ‘Being on purpose with our life’. As Charles Bukowski said 'Find what you love and let it kill you’… Consider the proverb 29:18, ‘Where there is no vision, the people will perish’.. So you see, nothing ‘new’ here.. it’s all been said, thought about, philosophized, heeded by some, disregarded by more.
“There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” ~ Nelson Mandela
If only we could live in a ‘Dharmic Society’! Where we all have the passion for life that Nelson Mandela refers to above. But, sadly, society and life, with its twists and turns, takes us away from our Dharma. many of us have even forgotten what it is to dream. How to dream! As children, we dream all the time. Our worlds are full of imaginary places, visions, people, conversations. We dream BIG! We feel HAPPY, EXCITED, ADVENTUROUS! But as we grow, our mind becomes consumed by the troubles and strife that life presents every day. And for many of us, our body’s start to suffer as a result. In my nursing, I have always been acutely aware of the close relationship our minds have upon our body. If we are anxious, pain becomes worse. How many medical conditions can you think of that are caused by, or exacerbated by, stress? How many times do you hear about the person who turned their face to the wall and suffered, maybe died, because they allowed that disease to beat them? That person was sad, had no fight, felt defeated, had lost their dharma… On the contrary, how many times do you hear about the person who overcame all the odds and survived? They were HAPPY, DETERMINED, PASSIONATE and they had or found their dharma. Yes… I hear your protesting too… this is a generalization, and it is not always the case, but the connection exists, we cannot deny, and it is visible to see.
So how can we rediscover our dharma? Well, like me, knowing what it is helps! And now that you do too, you can take some of the first steps…
Realize that you are ‘off track’, have lost your ‘way’, want more. Sometimes, we plod on, head down, consumed with negativity, and don’t even realize that we, our very being, that inner child, has been lost along the way. Maybe our partners, friends, family see it and when they tell us so, we are affronted…
Take time out for yourself. Re-aquaint yourself with YOU! Learn to LIKE you. LOVE you! Take a long hard look at what you are now. Then think about what you REALLY want to be. Allow yourself to see the qualities and gifts you have within your being. We ALL have them… we just lose them along our way. Then, we are frightened to look for them again. Fear of being disappointed, feeling of arrogance, not deserving… Remember: If you do this, not only will you benefit, but everyone around you will too! Your loved ones, your children, your clients…the man in the street and the girl at the cash out.
Allow yourself to DREAM… Rediscover the dreams you had years ago… Learn to dream them again… and to want them. Really want… Explore your FEELINGS. What makes you feel EXCITED? What makes you feel HAPPY? What makes you feel ALIVE?! How do you want to FEEL? Then dream the dreams that make you FEEL that way.Yes, this will take you out of your comfort zone! But that is ok! Your focus will shift… But you will start to look for and will find, your mentors. Your inspiration. You will be starting a new journey of self discovery. And when you realize your dharma, you will be getting back on track to living a meaningful life and will have the opportunity to share your gifts…your KARMA!
This process has been so exciting and fulfilling for me. The dreams are being realized and they just keep coming.
I am ALIVE. I am PASSIONATE. I am DETERMINED! And there are people out here who can help you to be the same. Just reach out as I did. Be brave, be you, and have what you want, desire and dream of.
