At the beginning of my 'Happiness Project', a very dear friend of mine posted a beautiful photograph of a snowy scene and people happily skating in the Olympic Plaza, Calgary. He said that it had ‘triggered’ a happy moment…
For the rest of my project, those moments became ‘Happiness Triggers’ and these have become a habit for my 'Happiness Triggers Community all over the world!
Each day I tried hard to identify that one ‘thing’ that triggered my happiness. It may have been a persons words or action, a pet or an item that I was grateful for. It may have been a song, a poem or a quote. Maybe the giving or receiving of a gift. A vision, a song, an achievement… Whatever it was, I focused upon it and I wrote it down.
Upon further investigation, I discovered that research has shown repeatedly, that focusing on the positive and sharing good things with people you care about makes you happier, healthier, more productive and less stressed!
Being ‘Happy’ isn’t just more fun, it is an essential part of our health and well being. Why? Take a look!
People who think more positively are 50% less likely to have a heart attack!
People who have a positive attitude have been found to have a better immunity to colds and ‘flu viruses!
Adopting an optimistic attitude to life reduces your risk of stroke and depression!
Happier people live longer! Adults who tested positively in psychological testing and shown to be pessimists had a higher death rate over a 30-year-period than those who tested to be optimists. Why? Because optimists are more likely to take better care of themselves and be healthier.
